What Are The Hallmarks Of A Luxury Mattress?

If you've been mattress shopping, you may have noticed that there are "luxury mattresses" in addition to traditional mattresses. But what exactly makes a luxury mattress so luxurious? A "luxury mattress" isn't a clear distinction, but there are some major characteristics that usually denote them.

High-Quality Components

There isn't a difference in the structure of a luxury mattress and a traditional mattress. Both of them are going to be made out of the same base parts. The difference lies in the quality of the components. A luxury mattress is going to have higher-quality padding, springs, cloth, and foam, which are therefore going to last longer. Understandably, it can be difficult to quantify this quality improvement in a store.

Encased Coils

Rather than having a number of coils in a layer, luxury mattresses usually individually encase their coils. This allows each coil to move independently, providing for a mattress that doesn't have a lot of bounce or disruption to it. These coils also have better support and will last longer.

Natural Exterior Materials

The exterior materials of a luxury mattress often include natural materials such as silk and cotton. For a regular mattress, it will usually be a synthetic material instead. Natural materials tend not to distribute heat as readily, leading for a more comfortable sleeping experience. Further, the stitch work and quilting will often be more complex on a luxury mattress than on a traditional mattress.

Pillow Tops And Foam

While even traditional or budget mattresses may have foam, luxury mattresses are more likely to have thick pillow tops and high-quality memory foam toppers. If you're looking at deep, tall mattresses that have high pillow tops, you're likely looking at a luxury mattress.

Having a thick pillow top or thick foam top doesn't necessarily mean that a mattress is very soft. Even pillow top mattresses come in a range of firmness, depending on your personal desires.

Premium Technology

Finally, luxury mattresses often have additional technology installed, such as cooling gel pads. These new technologies are integrated directly into the mattress and are designed to enhance comfort and customize your sleeping experience for you.

There's one thing that's for sure: a luxury mattress is usually a premium sleeping experience. But that doesn't mean that you should accept a hefty price tag just because the mattress says "luxury" on it. You can go to a mattress store and test out the mattresses there before making a decision.
